The Banggai Archipelago sits within the Coral Triangle — Southeast Asia's most biodiverse marine ecosystem. The Banggai Cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni) is endemic here and found nowhere else on Earth, breeding in dense schools above sea urchins in shallow reef zones.
Dua Island is the crown jewel of the dive sites — a dramatic vertical drop from 5 m to over 40 m, draped with massive gorgonian sea fans, black coral trees, and clouds of anthias. Macro hunters will find nudibranchs, pygmy seahorses, and ghost pipefish; pelagic spotters routinely see reef sharks, Napoleon wrasse, and green sea turtles.
Non-divers are not left behind — shallow shelves between 1 and 5 meters host the Cardinalfish breeding grounds, accessible to any snorkeler. PADI Discover Scuba intros are available on the boat for first-timers.
