About Dua Island (Pulau Dua Balantak)
Dua Island (Pulau Dua) is the crown jewel of Luwuk Banggai’s dive sites — a small, pristine island in the Banggai archipelago whose underwater world rivals the best dive destinations in Indonesia. The island’s east wall is legendary among experienced divers: a dramatic vertical drop from 5 meters to over 40 meters, draped with massive gorgonian sea fans, black coral trees, and clouds of anthias in every color. Above the surface, Dua Island offers white sand beaches, crystal-clear snorkeling waters, and the kind of Robinson Crusoe isolation that defines the Banggai Islands experience. For divers, Dua Island is simply unmissable.
Diving at Dua Island

Dua Island’s east wall is consistently ranked as one of the finest wall dives in Central Sulawesi. The wall starts at a manageable 5 meters — accessible even for newly certified divers — and plunges vertically past enormous sea fans (some spanning 2-3 meters), ancient black coral trees, and colonies of soft coral in vivid oranges, purples, and yellows. The wall face is alive with marine life at every depth: schools of fusiliers, clouds of anthias, hunting trevally, Napoleon wrasse, green sea turtles, and reef sharks patrolling the deeper sections.
For macro enthusiasts, the reef flat surrounding Dua Island hosts a remarkable diversity of smaller species: nudibranchs in dozens of varieties, pygmy seahorses clinging to sea fans, mantis shrimp in their burrows, and the endemic Banggai Cardinalfish hovering above their sea urchin hosts in the shallower zones. A single dive at Dua Island can easily yield 50+ species for an observant diver — a testament to the Coral Triangle biodiversity that makes this region so extraordinary.

Snorkeling at Dua Island
Non-divers need not miss out on Dua Island’s underwater wonders. The shallow reef crown (1-5 meters) around the island offers excellent snorkeling with clear water, abundant reef fish, and healthy coral. The western side of the island features a more gently sloping reef perfect for beginner snorkelers, with staghorn coral gardens hosting clownfish, parrotfish, and surgeonfish. Our guides position snorkelers at the best spots while divers explore the deeper wall — everyone surfaces with extraordinary underwater memories.
Dua Island Beach

Between dives, Dua Island’s white sand beach provides a perfect rest stop. The beach is small, pristine, and usually completely empty of other visitors. Picnic lunches here — with fresh fruit, local snacks, and the sound of gentle waves — are a highlight of any island hopping itinerary. The shallow water near the beach is warm, clear, and ideal for a relaxing swim or float.
