Dua Island Diving Details
Why Dua Island?
Dua Island represents some of Indonesia’s healthiest and most biodiverse coral reef systems. The convergence of three ocean currents creates nutrient-rich waters supporting exceptional marine life. Visibility often exceeds 30 meters. Large healthy coral formations, diverse fish species, sea turtles, and occasionally sharks make every dive remarkable.
Dive Requirements
Recreational dives at Dua require minimum Open Water Certification (PADI, SSI, CMAS, or equivalent). If not certified, we offer certification courses during this tour or previous tours. Dives are led by certified dive instructors with excellent safety records.
Dive Site Profile
- Depth Range: 8-40 meters (recreational limit 40m)
- Current: Moderate to strong (varies daily)
- Visibility: 20-35 meters average, can exceed 40m on calm days
- Marine Life: Reef sharks, turtles, groupers, barracuda, octopus, nudibranch, giant trevally
- Coral: Healthy hard and soft corals, sea fans, gorgonians
- Best Season: April-October (dry season), July-August busiest
Optional Night Dive
For advanced divers (Advanced Open Water or higher), night dives reveal a completely different reef ecosystem. Nocturnal predators emerge, hunting fish sleeping in coral. Bioluminescent creatures glow in flashlight beams. It’s an otherworldly experience that many consider the highlight of their diving career. Night dives are limited to 2-3 divers per guide and cost an additional $75-100.

- Conservation Discussion: Learn about sustainable fishing practices, coral protection initiatives, and how tourism helps fund marine conservation in the region.
Frequently Asked Questions – 5D4N Explorer
Do I need to be certified to dive at Dua Island?
Yes, minimum Open Water Certification is required for recreational dives. If not yet certified, we offer certification courses during the tour or you can get certified before arrival. Certification courses take 3-4 days and cost $300-400.
Is dolphin watching truly guaranteed?
We have a 90% sighting rate over 100+ tours. Morning expeditions when dolphins feed are the optimal time. If no dolphins are spotted on your day, we offer a full refund or free repeat expedition another morning.
How is the village cultural immersion different from shorter tours?
Shorter tours typically visit villages for 30-60 minutes for photos. The Explorer package includes 4+ hours of actual interaction: learning fishing techniques hands-on, eating home-cooked meals with families, visiting craft workshops, and genuine conversations. This creates real cultural connection, not just tourist observations.
Can I do the Explorer package without diving?
Yes! You can skip the Dua Island dives and instead do additional snorkeling at other premium reefs. The dolphin watching and extended village immersion still create an incredible Explorer experience. Contact us for snorkel-only pricing adjustments.
Is the night dive safe?
Night dives are safe when conducted by trained instructors (ours all are). You wear a light, stay close to your dive partner and guide, and dive at shallower depths (8-15m) than daytime dives. Participants must be Advanced Open Water certified or have specific night dive training.
What if I want the diving but not the village visit?
We can customize the itinerary. Tell us your preferences and we adjust activities accordingly. You pay based on actual experiences booked.
Can I upgrade from 4D3N to 5D4N after starting the tour?
Often, yes! If you’re enjoying the 4D3N and want to stay longer, contact us on Day 3 and we’ll arrange the upgrade (subject to accommodation and boat availability). A price adjustment applies for the extra day.

Best Season for Explorer Package
Optimal Season (June-August)
Dry season conditions, calmest waters, best visibility (30+ meters), most reliable dolphin sightings. Busier and slightly higher prices.
Good Season (April-May, September-October)
Still excellent conditions, fewer crowds, lower prices. Slightly more occasional wind/waves but still very swimmable and diveable.
Wet Season (November-March)
Acceptable conditions with occasional rain and moderate seas. Visibility reduces to 15-20m. Significantly fewer tourists. Prices drop 25-35%. Diving still possible on calm days.
